Twentysomething (2018-19) is a project that explores personal space to someone in their twenties. Inspired by my own experiences as a twenty-something post-college and finding ways to build my own structure as a young adult, I became interested in photographing "twenty-somethings" in their own chosen personal space where they feel the most secure. Reaching out to my peers I asked them to choose this space and I began photographing them in it as we talked and interacted within their space addressing our thoughts and feelings of where we were in our lives. I utilize focused and unfocused imagery as a way to visualize the looming uncertainty that we all have felt in our mid-twenties as we navigate our way through adulthood. When installing this work I wanted to display it in a space that symbolized adolescence in order to juxtapose the imagery itself. For me, lockers remind so much of being in high school and decorating them so they feel more like your own space within the school. Using the imagery created for this project to “decorate” these lockers marries these two life stages together. The installation becomes an intersection between adulthood and adolescence allowing the viewer to have an intimate moment with the imagery and reflect themselves.
