This body of work explores the concept of recovery and comparing it to a journey through a forest. At the time this series was conceived I was recovering from a year of depression and anxiety. The journey to get to a better place in my life was not easy and it felt like I was trying to get out of a vast forest that I’ve been lost in. Using large format negatives and printing them as cyanotypes I chose to use myself as a model and allowed myself to be photographed in a vulnerable state. I altered many of the negatives by shredding them or simply wetting them to represent my own mental wounds. With the resulting imagery I formulated a narrative with the first image being the beginning of this journey and the final image being the end.
